Countdown to Valborg/Sista April - spring celebration

To all the international students who spend their summer semester here in Lund: congratulations you definitely chose the right time to be here. To all the Swedes: tack så mycket for being as you are and for your great student traditions. This spring will be awesome! So time to get psyched and start the countdown to the last of April!

As with many Swedish holidays, it’s really hard to tell the original reason behind it:  Maybe a Christian tradition? Or maybe it is related to the current amount of sunshine? It is very unclear, and even the Swedes seem to have a pretty fuzzy understanding of the story behind Valborg (or Sista April as students call it in Lund to express their distinction from the ‘rivals’ in Uppsala who call it Valborg).

Lund loves second hand

And so do we!

In Sweden, second hand is quite a big thing compared to some other countries. I personally love to browse around in the second hand stores Lund has to offer. Of course in such an international student’s city, there is a need for individualistic and also a bit cheaper things. And since there is quite some fluctuation of international students who don’t take their stuff back home, the second hand stores always have nice and useful offers.

So, today we want to present you some really great second hand stores here in Lund where you can find different things - may it be clothes, furniture or other everyday and unique stuff.

Ice hockey in Malmö

Swedes love ice hockey! This is one of the many ideas we have in mind about them. And it’s true that ice hockey has always been a very popular sport here both for players and for viewers. There are many hockey-clubs all over the country and every boy has at least once tried to play ice hockey.

So, if you are in Sweden you should definitely go to see a game. Marion and me went to Malmö to watch Malmö Redhawks vs. Troja Ljunby.

Karneval in Lund?

Actually, every four years in May there is a student carnival in Lund – Lundakarnevalen. The last one, however, was in 2010 and thus, the next one will be in 2014 again – so it’s quite far away. But right now for example in Germany there is ‘Fasching’ – our crazy 5th season - and also the kids here in the north are celebrating Karneval right now. So first of all we want to wish you all a lot of fun celebrating.

And additionally this makes us feel that it’s time to introduce a very funny store to you.

Sporty Lund – Train at Gerdahallen!

One of the first things I recognized when I moved to Lund last summer was that the Swedes are really sporty! Honestly, I have the feeling almost everyone here is interested and active in sports – which I really admire. It’s awesome and motivating, because it makes me want to do more sports as well!

So, when I was looking for a cool gym within the first weeks, a number of people recommended Gerdahallen to me! And obviously not without a good reason: I subscribed and I really love working out there!
